If you live in Los Angeles and don’t know who Tanna Frederick is, you probably haven’t driven down Sunset Boulevard sometime in the past few years. Her face has been plastered on the billboard in front of the complex that housed the now closed Sunset Laemmle theatres. Why, you ask? She is independent director Henry Jaglom’s de facto leading lady. As I have often wondered who this woman on the billboard is, I jumped at the chance to speak with her about her relationship with Jaglom and her upcoming film, The M Word. And while Tanna has had what many aspiring actors must consider enviable success, it hasn’t gone to her head — her bubbly personality and natural charm make her utterly likable.

Tanna to receive Distinguished Alumni Award!

2012 Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Iowa
“Tanna Frederick is a rising movie star whose drive and determination have benefited the University of Iowa and the charitable causes she holds dear. Thankful for a UI experience that prepared her for a successful acting career in Hollywood—where she’s starred in many acclaimed plays and films—Frederick has given back to the Department of Theatre Arts in myriad ways, most notably through a student scholarship. A true supporter of the Hawkeye state, Frederick also founded the Iowa Independent Film Festival in her hometown of Mason City. Beyond the arts, she’s an avid surfer who co-founded Project Save Our Surf in Santa Monica, California, which raises money to preserve threatened coastline, as well as provide clean drinking water to those who need it.”

Tanna To Be Honored By Univ. Of Iowa
November 14th, 2011
The Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award from the University of Iowa will go to my dearest friend and “Queen of the Lot” co-star Tanna Frederick next year, for an amazing life of achievement post her college years. She beat out Ashton Kutcher and other alumni for the honor. “Thanks, Tommy, I am so appreciative of this. I loved my years in Iowa and I am proud to say that I attended the University of Iowa, and am still grateful for the confidence and the education they instilled in me. I truly believe it’s helped me in my life thus far, and I hope to continue making them as proud as I am of the school,” said Frederick.
This award is granted to University of Iowa graduates or former students for significant accomplishments in business or professional life or for distinguished human service to their community, state, or nation. What’s next for Frederick? There is much chatter in Tinseltown about her budding film career, and she’s still wowing audiences in “Sylvia,” directed by the legendary Gary Imhoff at the famed Edgemar Theatre for the Arts in Santa Monica.

Project Save Our Surf Raises Funds and Awareness to Protect Oceans
November 1st, 2011
Just south of Tower 28 at the Santa Monica Pier, TV celebrities and world-renowned professional surfers joined surfing legend Shaun Tomson and actress, surfer, and founder of Project Save Our Surf Tanna Frederick to raise $50,000 for our clean ocean and clean water beneficiaries.
There were 10 teams of 24 surfers, competing in 45-minute heats. Each surfer showed off their “mad skills,” with the celebs holding their own against the pros.
Santa Monica Bay has never experienced more fun, enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and—more importantly—dedication to its aliveness than the weekend of Oct. 15 and 16. The waves, although friendly, were challenging enough for the day’s event.

Tanna Frederick Leads Save Our Surf Event To Combat Ocean Pollution
October 24th, 2011
During the past few years Frederick found herself enmeshed in the world of acting, starring in movies like “Hollywood Dreams,” (2006) “Queen of the Lot,” (2008) and her current project, “M Word,” co-starring Frances Fisher.
Frederick’s passion for acting, surfing, and “adrenaline type sports,” is quickly gaining notoriety and she has attracted a stream of like-minded Hollywood actors, pro-surfers, and celebrities with similar concerns about the ocean and the environment.
