Peek…Aren’t You Curious will host a benefit July 30th for clean ocean charity Project Save Our Surf. The event will feature a variety of family-friendly activities including the design of a surfboard that will be raffled that day. Pro surfer Trae Candy will sign autographs from 2 pm – 4 pm. A portion of proceeds of the days sales will be donated to Project Save Our Surf, and customers who spend $125 will receive a Peek Surf Kit. Project Save Our Surf was founded by actress Tanna Frederick.

Peek…Aren’t You Curious, a children’s clothing store in Santa Monica, will host a benefit on Saturday, July 30th from 10 am – 7 pm for clean oceans charity Project Save Our Surf. The all day event will feature a variety of family-friendly activities including surfing videos and “Ocean in a Bottle” crafts. Patrons can participate in the design of a surfboard that will be raffled that day, as well as test their surf acumen on an “indo board.”  Up and coming pro surfer Trae Candy will sign autographs from 2 pm – 4 pm. Project Save Our Surf merchandise, including children’s bracelets and hand made silk screened t-shirts will also be for sale. A portion of proceeds of the days sales will be donated to Project Save Our Surf, and all customers who spend $125 the day of the event will receive a Peek Surf Kit that includes an illustrated coloring book, surf patches and Peek surf stickers.

I’ve been lucky. Over the years, I’ve experienced some wonderful interviews with the best, and occasionally worst, that the indie film world has to offer. I’ve interviewed a few widely known celebs, as well, including Patty Duke, Anthony Perkins, director Greg Mottola and even Larry the Cucumber. For the most part, perhaps owing to my more relaxed and conversational interview style, my interviews over the years have been awesome experiences. Every so often, an interview seems to transcend simply being an “interview” and becomes an authentic connection that lingers far past the confines of the actual interview. Talking to a person with an unmistakable, genuine enthusiasm for life is relatively rare. But actor Tanna Frederick is one of these people.

Her bio reads like the C.V. of a true Renaissance woman – a double major in political science and theatre, she’s also the founder of the Iowa International Film Festival and Project Save Our Surf and an avid surfer and second degree black belt in Tae Kwan Do; all this, in addition to her successful acting career. On stage she can currently be seen in the title role in Sylvia at the Edgemar Center in California, while her most recent screen credit is Queen of the Lot with cutie-pie co-star Noah Wyle.

Earlier this year, Tanna Frederick was a huge hit with audiences and critics in the enormously popular comedy “Sylvia,” when it was presented at Sierra Madre Playhouse. Now, she brings her starring performance to the Westside, where the play will be given a different directorial perspective by its new award-winning director, Gary Imhoff; and a new look from its award-winning production designer Joel Daavid. “Sylvia” runs May 20- July 10, 2011. Tanna Frederick (Maggie Chase) and Noah Wyle (Aaron Lambert) create magic as young and old Hollywood collide in Queen of the Lot that was just released on DVD this week. Maggie is an up-and-coming actress from Iowa obsessed with celebrity, while Aaron is from an old movie family with all the right connections. To get a behind-the-scenes view from the Writer/Director Henry Jaglom, I interviewed this maverick filmmaker at a local café in Santa Monica. Henry shared, “I think Noah Wyle is wonderful with Tanna, and their chemistry is amazing.” Similar to Henry’s Hollywood career, which includes becoming friends with Natalie Wood (West Side Story) and Jack Nicholson (Easy Rider), this story is about love, fame and luck.
